What is Bandhani?

Bandhani is a resist-dye technique in which small points of fabric are tied tightly with thread before dyeing, creating dotted patterns.

Where is it from?

Gujarat (including Kutch and Jamnagar) and Rajasthan.

How is it made?

The design is marked, each dot is pinched and tied by hand, the cloth is dyed (sometimes in several colours), and the ties are opened after drying.

Why is it special?

A single dupatta or saree can carry thousands of hand-tied knots.
