What is Blue Pottery?
Jaipur blue pottery is a glazed ware made from a quartz-based dough rather than clay, decorated mainly in cobalt blue and turquoise.

How is it made?
A dough of quartz powder, glass, gum and other materials is shaped in moulds, dried, hand-painted with natural oxides, glazed and fired at a low temperature.

Why is it special?
The low-fired quartz body and bright glaze give it a distinctive look; every piece is hand-painted.
History & tradition
The craft is linked to Persian and Mughal influences and was revived in Jaipur in the 20th century; Blue Pottery of Jaipur is GI-registered.
