What is Meenakari?
Meenakari is the art of decorating metal surfaces with coloured enamel, used in jewellery and decorative objects.

Where is it from?
Jaipur in Rajasthan is the best-known centre; Varanasi practises a pink enamel style (Gulabi Meenakari).

How is it made?
Designs are engraved into the metal, filled with powdered coloured glass, and fired one colour at a time before polishing.

Why is it special?
Each colour needs its own firing, so a single piece can pass through the kiln many times.
History & tradition
The craft came to India through Mughal-era workshops; Varanasi Gulabi Meenakari is GI-registered.
