What is Dhokra?
Dhokra is non-ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax technique, known for figurines, animals and jewellery.

Where is it from?
Tribal artisan communities in Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.

How is it made?
A clay core is covered with wax threads to form the design, coated with clay, heated so the wax melts away, and filled with molten brass.

Why is it special?
Every mould is broken to release the piece, so no two Dhokra objects are identical.
History & tradition
Lost-wax casting in India is thousands of years old; Bastar Dhokra and Dokra of Bengal are GI-registered.
